Entrepreneurship Club

Model U.N is an activity that gave me my first real insight into international relations and foreign policy.  Representing countries like Italy in topics such as drone wars helped me get a truly global perspective and learn how different cultures value different opinions.  Transferring skills from Speech and Debate, I truly enjoyed the discussional nature of this activity combined with the intellectual aspect of talking about real-world solutions to real-world problems.

Mock Trial was a club activity where I learned the true value of teamwork and how to further my debate and cross-fire questioning techniques.  Acting as our own defense or prosecution legal team, we had to work together to spin a story of how events unfolded and how the same evidence supported either side.

Achievements

- 2x Regional Champions

(Undefeated until state league)

- Senior Year: Elected Public Liason Officer

- handled case overview

- make sure individual testimonies add up, support each other, and are convincing

Coached tennis with the department head over the summer for children of ages 11-14.  Worked on serving, forehand, and backhand technique as well as game strategy.  Working part-time for 3 days a week, I amassed over 50 community service hours from this coaching position.  I also helped set up tournaments and designed the head coaches website, that is still used for the majority of the tennis department.

Entrepreneurship Club (E-Club) is a club I started senior year as a sort of incubator for high-school students who are interested in starting their own businesses or learning about entrepreneurship.

Through the course of our pilot year, we were able to cover an entire curriculum including coursework in Finance, Marketing, Team Management, and Sales, as well as prepare three teams to pitch in an international competition at MIT.  Out of more than 100 teams, we were able to send one team to finals.  This team created a completely functional prototype and won a $300.00 cash prize for 3rd place.

Extracurricular

Being involved in National Honor Society for numerous years, my senior year I decided to join the Fundraising Committee in efforts to use my expertise in social entrepreneurship for my school.  While in this committee, I helped run a Senior Appreciation Day which collected funds throughout all grades wishing seniors and teachers well in college and sending them bubbles.  This venture, in addition with a Panera bread raiser, ended up raising hundreds of dollars for the school and a non-profit of it's choosing.

Community Service

High-school is a time of self-discovery and really trying to define who you are.  What you choose to do in your free time is a big part of this defining process and for me, clubs such as Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, and Model U.N were the home away from home that made me who I am today.

Westford Parks and Recreational Tennis Department

(Check out the website I designed.  This one was one of my first)

Working as PR Manager under the Leadership Committee of our local Farmers Market, I managed volunteers, helped coordinate vendors, and satisfy customers on a week by week basis.  One of my main community service initiatives (other than starting my own non-profit) I dedicated myself to making sure the market ran smoothly every Tuesday, every summer and fall, for both the sophomore and junior year summers that I was present for.   I was even allowed to fundraise for EmpowertheBlind there as a reward for my efforts.

- Gained over 50 community service hours

Speech and Debate has been a passion of mine all throughout high school.  It was this activity that gave a young unknown freshman the confidence and eloquence that was a basis for many of his ventures.  Meeting and competing against an amazing selection of bright students kindled my competitive spirit.
